Rutland Ospreys

Maschio Osprey 5R (04) fledged dal nido sito B nel 2004. Fu il primo Osprey Rutland nato a tornare qui nel 2006. Ha allevato per la prima volta a Manton Bay nel 2010 con una femmina non-inanellati, presunto scozzese. Da allora hanno sollevato un totale di 11 pulcini. Nel 2014 la femmina è arrivata a Rutland (17 marzo) e attendiamo il ritorno di 5R (l'anno scorso, 28 marzo).

Excitement at the Manton Bay Nest!

We have had some excitement at the Manton Bay nest this morning! The Manton Bay female flew off the nest with half a fish at about 09:30. Roughly 15 minutes later, staff in the centre spotted an Osprey landing on the nest, sporting a ring! Could it be 5R?

On closer inspection we saw that the ring was number 25. From this we know that this bird is a female who fledged from Rutland in 2010, and she bred in the area last year, raising three chicks.

She seems to be settling in on the nest, scraping it out and moving some sticks. What will happen when the Manton Bay female returns to find an intruder on her nest?!

More Action from Manton Bay!

Following on from the arrival of 25(10) at the Manton Bay nest…

25 seemed to be settling down on the nest, moving some sticks about and scraping out the centre. We were wondering where the Manton Bay female was, and then she suddenly appeared on the nest with her fish. She was showing defensive behaviour towards 25, who didn’t take the hint and tried to steal her fish! What a cheeky young Osprey!

The Manton Bay female was having none of it, and tried to fly away to protect the fish. However, 25 wasn’t going to let her get away that easily, and she grabbed hold of it! A brief tug-of-war was initiated, which ended with the Manton Bay female pushing 25 away with her foot and high-tailing it to safety.

It appears that 25 has now finally accepted that she’s not getting this nest or this fish. She was seen flying away from the area, towards the nest where she bred last year. Her arrival caused a great deal of excitement here at Rutland Water! We look forward to seeing more Ospreys returning to the area in the coming days! Keep an eye on here for updates.

Rapidamente immersioni alla webcam, dito in bilico sul pulsante di registrazione, abbiamo aspettato con il fiato sospeso. Doveva essere stato vicino.

"E 'in cima alla pertica!" - Così appena fuori dalla portata della fotocamera. Seduto su di esso, in realtà. L'immagine è stata rimbalzando leggermente sotto il peso di questa femmina familiare, tantalizingly vicino ma appena fuori di vista. Saremmo stati a guardare la nostra femmina Manton Bay svettanti su Lax Hill pochi minuti prima, l'occasionale Gabbiano picchiata per mob lei, quando improvvisamente sembrava fare una Beeline indietro verso la baia. Questo è stato quando il telefono squillò.

Fissando avidamente alla webcam abbiamo aspettato, quando ci fu: la femmina Manton Bay torna a difendere il suo nido, scivolando elegantemente nella ripresa e la diffusione stessa larghezza.

Terribilmente, dal Centro Visitatori non abbiamo potuto spiare 00 (09), ma un rapido sguardo indietro al consiglio mostrato che lei allevato per la prima volta a Rutland Water scorso anno. E 'tre giorni dopo, troppo, essendo arrivato di nuovo il 18 marzo dello scorso anno, ma staremo a lei perdonare per questo. Questo ci dà il potenziale per quattro nidi finora - ed è solo il 21 marzo! È interessante notare che molti uccelli che hanno restituito finora si sono fermati a Manton come primo porto di scalo (che è utile per noi!). Questo è davvero preannuncia essere un inizio fenomenale per la stagione, e per coronare il tutto, la nostra coppia di gheppi sono alla ricerca piuttosto accogliente fuori la parte anteriore del Centro, troppo!

Abbiamo tutti le dita incrociate per il ritorno dei 5R nei prossimi giorni (se non ore!), Quindi tenete gli occhi su quella macchina fotografica!
