Bob Anderson's narrative from finding D1 this morning, 1-6-2012 ~
With D1 remaining in the same general area as she did from yesterday I decided to take off this AM and see if I could find her. I made my way to the Little Turkey River between St. Lucas, IA and Hawkeye, IA. It took a few stops with the telemetry but I finally got a beep that led me down to the river itself. No roads available. I went to a nearby farm house and after playing toreador using my yaggi antennae to ward off a dog trying to latch on to my calf, the owner came out of his house and saved me. He knew of the Decorah Eagle Cam and of D1. He gave me permission to set off across his land on foot. It took me about twenty minutes carefully working my way in her direction. The beep was getting louder with every step forward. I broke out on the bank of the river only to spook her from a tree directly on the other bank. I watched her fly down stream and, down wind. Gol dang it!
I returned to my car dodging the nipping dog and worked my way in the direction she flew. I was pleased to get a beep in what looked to be the same farmers property. At least I hoped so. Broke out on foot to the river bottom and was able to snap this one poor attached picture of her before she spooked once again. Returned home after logging 74 miles. Bob
