THE first egg of the season for Brisbane's penthouse falcons, Frodo and Frieda, has been laid.
The peregrine falcons have laid three or four eggs each season for the past five years, watched live by a growing army of fans around the world courtesy of The Courier-Mail's Frodocam.
The first egg arrived just after midnight, on the morning of Sunday, August 19.
Frodo fans had expressed concern that eggs had not been laid as ealry as in previous seasons, but raptor expert Greg Czechura, of the Queensland Museum, said those seasons were early because of a series of mild winters.
Frieda is sitting on the egg in a hollowed-out nest above the Brisbane River on a pebbly, cliff-like ledge atop Admiralty Towers 1 in central Brisbane, just below the Frodocam camera.
