Yesterday (9th of May) Dorine was near the tower and this is what she wrote about it:

It was a strange day today. Actually every day does not go like we wish he would go. This morning it took a while before Pa came with some food for the kids. But when he finally came, he didn’t stop coming. Four times he came with prey to the nestbox. One prey larger than the other, but the kids had full crops and that’s what counts. These 60 minutes feeding messed up my daily routine, but for something as beautiful like this, I don’t mind. After the feeding the kids were lying down very satisfied. Around 1 PM Pa came with another prey but unfortunately S2 was there too. This afternoon I couldn’t watch anymore because I had obligations at our horse stable.

On the way back from the stable I made a detour to the tower. Together with Menno (my son) I stayed there 45 minutes, from 3.30 till 4.15 PM. It was anything but exciting. On arrival S2 sat on the top lamp on the frontside and when we left she was still there. The lady was looking fat, with her feathers all spread. We walked on the sand road to the backside and to the field behind the “Snelle Loop”. We couldn’t see Pa. Therefore we returned to the car and on the road we looked a bit more. Pa was present. We saw him in the air shortly but then he disappeared behind the trees out of sight. I don’t know where Pa came from. I hoped then that he was hunting and when we came home it seemed to be true. A short while later Pa entered the nestbox with prey. A bit later S2 followed and took the prey.

Around 5 PM the same story. Sometimes it is really not funny anymore. You start questioning yourself more often if she is able to catch her own food. The doubt about that are increasing, especially when you are near the tower and you see her sitting on that red lamp, showing off. You are in the Mortel, not in Amsterdam (red light district).

I started to become gloomy and again I went to the tower. On arrival S2 was sitting on the lamp again. Or she sits very stoical on the platform and doesn’t care the chicks of she sits on the lamp. Boring bird. We couldn’t discover Pa. Very soon we got company from Gerrit and together we saw Pa arrive with a prey, flying in the direction of the nestbox to feed his chicks. And what do you do when you are standing there? Exactly, keeping an eye on S2 and hope that her feet are glued to the lamp for a while. Not!!! But S2 flies zigzagging, very calm to the platform. We see Pa leaving the nestbox and S2 entering the nestbox. From the people at home, we heard that Pa was done with the feeding fortunately.

Pa is landing on the right saucer of the second ring of the bottom. A bit later S2 follows in the same direction and lands on the bottom ring, near the (for us) right saucer. A long period nothing happens and at a certain moment we can’t even see them. Then, suddenly Pa chases after a pigeon, above the forest on our right side. But Pa is smart and chases the pigeon back in the direction of the tower. Tactics?? Pigeon and Pa are very close and they passed the tower and suddenly a miracle happens. S2 comes in action and offers Pa the much needed help. Together they chase the pigeon. It was a beautiful view and all that happened above the field near de “Snelle Loop”. Dear people, it is true. S2 hit the prey… only she dropped the pigeon and dived after the pigeon once more. Our astonishment was huge. She can hunt and catch prey. Six eyes saw it. Finally, because we had big doubts about this. The most beautiful part was the teamwork with Pa and a short while it looked like the past years, when we saw Pa and Ma doing this frequently. Pa and S2 can do it together. It gives a good feeling, especially with the fledge of the kids getting near.

They didn’t catch the prey. Pa and S2 returned with empty hands (claws ) S2 in front who lands on her favourite lamp to swallow her disappointment, followed by Pa who landed on the lamp on the right side. At the same time Kuiko (forum member) arrived by car and asked with open window if he saw it all right. He couldn’t believe his eyes and neither could we. The four of us stood there for a while, very impressed. Meanwhile Pa started hunting again and S2 finally sat down on the bottom ring near the right saucer. It started to rain a little and as we had a wonderful night, we left, after Kuiko left too and Gerrit stayed a bit longer. Probably not much longer because the rain was getting heavier.

In a happy mood we arrived home and when we looked on the laptop we see Pa with a prey on the platform. Wonderful, having a good meal again and it was a good meal. While I was writing this, he arrived for the second time and the kids have a full crop. They can go to sleep very satisfied. If tomorrow is the same as today, I’ll sign for it and than in the evening, when we are near the tower, S2 is allowed to hit another pigeon and offer it as a prey to the kids. I’m going to dream about it tonight and maybe this dream will come true. Who knows.

Let's hope dreams do come true!! Thank you Dorine.

Buongiorno a tutti/e!

Ore 06:55 (circa) entra S2/Margot e spaventa i pullini (ma io ho sentito solo le grida... l'ho letto sul sito olandese);
