Purtroppo ho l'impressione che Nora si sia rassegnata all'inevitabile.
Ma ho protestato anche sul forum di Cleveland. Se abbiamo il diritto di stare a guardare, forse abbiamo anche il dovere di intervenire...
Pare anche a me che l'accesso al nido non presenti difficoltà particolari, certo molto meno che scalare un ponte o anche un traliccio, come tranquillamente fa Giac, c..... Scusate!

Si, ti prego. A Cleveland trovo consensi, ma niente azione. Qualcuno teme che abbiano leggi che vietano di intervenire, il che non credo, per quel che so. E sono vivi e chiamano, poveri piccoli...

I modified Roxy's letter a little and this is the message I sent. When perople have lots to read, they only retain one third, so hopefully it is meaningful.

Dear Dutch Peregrine Workgroup,

After watching what is happening in the Netherlands peregrine falcon nest, I would like to ask that something be done, in conjunction with your authorities, to intervene and save the eyases.

While I normally condone leaving nature to nature, this Nestbox was placed at this location by the hand of humans. It was human intervention that brought the peregrine falcon back to what it is today! Humans modified the environment, and helped to remove these birds from the endangered species list.

Efforts over the years have been made to recover their number and each chick is a precious life to save (even in consideration of the low rate of fledglings that survive the first dangerous year of life).

Your webcam is well known and monitored worldwide. It is difficult to watch right now, and as a lover of wildlife, I can't bare to see this continue without doing something.

I only hope that my plea to give the peregrine chicks a better chance of survival will be heard.

Please take action now!!

My dear Italian friends, thank you so much for your kind words and your concern.

I appreciate all your efforts to save these little chicks.

But the law in Holland is very strict: all birds are protected, and are not to be disturbed in any way by humans during the mating season.

In other words: it is strictly forbidden to save these chicks by feeding them, or take the chicks away and put them in a foster nest, because such actions are a disturbance of the natural course of breeding.

They only consider intervention in case a bird/nest is harmed by humans. And even than, only when the survival of the whole species is at risk, not for one individual nest...

I tried to explain our law in a few words...



Today's technology makes it possible for us to see eggs laid, hatches, first flights, all those beautiful things in the life of birds.
But we witness also the battles, injuries, broken eggs, starvation of chicks.


I won't give up hope yet...

Torno ora da una giornata impegnativa.....In poche parole non possiamo fare altro che restare spettatori di questa tragedia....

mi approprio delle parole di roxy che hanno espresso benissimo la disperazione nell'anima.....vorrei arrampicarmi su quel nido e dar io da mangiare a loro....


con un filo di speranza....incrocio le dita, le penne,le piume e tutto l'incrociabile....

i think that they could at least extinguish the webcam!!!
The directed cruelty in is not sign of civilization!
If task also only to my friends with children to which I have advised to see the several ones webcam, me tightens the heart...
But the speech is too much along.

Mi dispiace, non so dare lumi sul comportamento generale. Ma è evidente che questo maschio non ce la fa. A parte l'inedia, manca ancora la termoregolazione autonoma a quei piccoli. Si spegneranno e forse non sarà una sofferenza così atroce per loro.
Ma, come dice giustamente Sonia, almeno la morte in diretta ce la potrebbero risparmiare. Invece è come con quel dolce cicognino l'anno scorso. Si poteva intervenire senza difficoltà di sorta. Questa volta c'è pure la legge che lo vieta.
Anche la mia giornata è stata pesante, parola, ed è molto meglio che mi fermi qui.
