da Joyce:
"According to the Buffalo Audubon website, "Connie Adams of the DEC informed us that as of 4/9 there are 5 eggs in the nest."

I'll try again next week to see if I can capture a photo, but when the falcons are incubating, it's tough to see one of them off the eggs. If all 5 eggs hatch, it will be a challenge trying to get photos of the eyases before and after they fledge.

Other news - The Buffalo Audubon Society has announced the Falconcam may go live wihin a week.

Joyce"

Sembra ci siano 5 uova!!!
E che entro una settimana attivino la CAM!!! :D

Buffalo Falcon Watch 4-30-07

I did my live feed monitoring after work (7:30-8:15 p.m.) I think it was Lady Falcon on the eggs. She was a little antsy this evening, She kept moving on the eggs. I wonder if that is a sign of things to come? I got to see 3 eggs during her rotations, but she never moved off the eggs so I could get a picture of all the eggs.

Sir Falcon came in and sat on the perch outside the nest. You can only see half his body, but one time he bent down to check things out. My arms got tired waiting for him to come into the nest. Well he never did, and I wasn't ready when he took off. So the best you get to see are yellow feet. At least this time I got to see two adults.

I put 10 pics into Flickr (no sets, my freebe is up). I let Lady Falcon tell the story this time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/falconwatcher/

Buffalo Falcon Watch Report - WED 5/9/07 (7:45-8:45 PM)

Sorry for the delay in posting – meetings all day today. Hooray for 4 eyases!! I was a little late getting away from the office last night. I was torn between the nice weather and taking pictures versus getting four reports completed before I left work. Well work won out and I was prepared for today's meetings.

When I arrived about 7:40 PM, Lady Falcon was huddling close to the eyases. By the time I got my camera up, she was mantling the babies. She continued this for a half hour. I thought "Oh, my falcon watching buddies are going to be disappointed." Close to 8:30, Sir Falcon flew in with prey. What a good dad – right on time for the final feeding before they settle in for the night. Sir Falcon gave a little attention to Lady Falcon, and then he took off while she fed the chicks.

I finally got to see three eyases and two intact eggs. The chicks were hungry. Their mouths were moving, and I imagined they were making sounds like the Planet falcons. Dad came back and perched outside the nest, then left again. He was just making sure everything was okay. It was getting dark so I headed outside to my car. Just before I left, Sir Falcon flew back into the nest, and there was e-chupping. That's the first time I heard sounds out of the Buffalo falcons. What a nice way to end my watch.

NOTE: This album allows you to view without signing in, but in the future I may opt for sign-in. I decided to go back and use my Kodak Gallery account because I don't like the Flickr set up (too cumbersome for uploads and limited albums).

da Joyce :

Hi folks!

Buffalo Falcon Watch Thu 5/24 (5:30-7:00 PM)

I was at it again yesterday. Had some nice falcon sightings after work. Adults were perched outside the nestbox, on the Liberty building and flying.

I had a first time experience yesterday. I was taking pictures of one perched at the nest. All of a sudden I saw a vertical stoop. I mean true vertical - straight down at the fastest speed I'd ever seen! Sorry, no pictures - I couldn't even think that fast! It was breathtaking. I'm pretty sure it was Lady Falcon. She flew along the side of the building above the sidewalk, then back up towards the nest, but without prey. I did catch some landing shots.

Later, she took off, and there was no adult at the nest. I'm not sure yet who came back with prey, but I was lucky to catch the falcon with the sunlight and prey.

I took 275 photos, and it will take me awhile to go through them, get rid of the bad ones, and then try and narrow them down into an album.

So…for now here is a teaser…
